My Story
My name is Emma. I live with my two little boys in London, where I am a full time Mum to the both of them.
Before having kids, I was an avid explorer, travelled the world a few times, spending a year in Australia, a summer in the States, a few months in Latin America, and travelled and worked in many places through Europe, Thailand, and Hawaii often returning for second visits!
Because of this I’ve had a chance to see how a lot of different cultures live, I’ve had a true taste of ‘freedom’ away from city life, the 9-5 or western society in general.
Mixed in with an early interest in hypnotherapy, NLP and the human mind and psychology, (with a side of spirituality, meditation and mindfulness) I studied and immersed myself in human potential, trasformation and the healing of ourselves from our past.
In between all this I also had a successful career Project Managing for a well known London company, which I have happily given up!
Because of this passion for natural and alternative lifestyle and have followed that route into motherhood. As soon as I was pregnant I devoured as much information as possible about natural birth and conscious pregnancy, hypnobirthing, and conscious parenting.
My first birth ended up in a cesarean, but with number 2 I proudly gave birth to him on the bathroom floor, well it was meant to be in the birth pool but these things don’t always go to plan!
I used hypnobirthing through both labours, my 1st lasting around 36 hours with no pain relief (before I went into hospital). My second it was around 20 something hours
Some of the first books I read focused around Ina Mays guide to Childbirth, The Continuum Concept, and Unconditional Parenting.
So getting heavily into the attachment parenting, from birth I have co-slept, worn them both in a sling, (~not at the same time!) breastfed and all the other crunchy stuff. In fact I’m currently tandem nursing my two boys and nursed my 1st through pregnancy with my 2nd.
Attachment parenting naturally lead me to look into alternative forms of raising kids, away from the more traditional authoritarian approach. I got into Dr Sear’s stuff and I then took an interest into communication tools as my eldest got towards talking age. If I didnt want to go the authoritarian route, then what was I supposed to do, say etc?
This lead me into the world of Non Violent Communication (NVC), articles on The Natural Child Project, and books like Respectful Parents, Respectful Kids.
I moved through interests in Montessori education, homeschooling and finally landed in the world of Unschooling or Autonomous Education as it can be referred to here in the UK. I’m loving the priciples behind it, the freedom for the kids, and the connection it brings in the relationship.
I also love reading on Consensual Living which for me goes hand in hand with unschooling principles.
I am a qualified hypnotherapist, coach and NLP practitioner. I’ve recently added hypnosis for pregnancy and birth to my skill set after the success I had throughout my own labour using these methods.
I have a passion for informing and educating others to the benefits of conscious parenting, pregnancy and birth. I am still learning as I go of course, knowing my little ones will teach me some of lifes greatest lessons as they grows into secure and capable young men.
